The Auburndale Project, a 155 MW dual-fueled (natural gas and oil) combined cycle cogeneration facility located in Auburndale, Florida, achieved commercial operation in 1994. In November 2008, Atlantic Power acquired an indirect 100% ownership interest in Auburndale Power Partners, L.P., the owner of the Project.
Auburndale sells electric capacity and energy to Progress Energy Florida under three long-term power purchase agreements; each expiring year-end 2013. The Project also supplies steam to Cutrale Citrus Juices USA, Inc. under a steam purchase agreement that expires in 2013, and to Florida Distillers Company under a contract that extends annually.
El Paso Merchant Energy, L.P. supplies the majority of the Project's fuel under a fixed price gas supply agreement which expires mid-2012. The gas supply agreement meets approximately 80% of the Project's fuel requirements with the remainder purchased on the spot market. Auburndale has gas transportation arrangements with Central Florida Gas Company, Florida Gas Transmission Company and Peoples Gas System, Inc.
A subsidiary of Caithness Energy operates and manages the plant on Atlantic Power's behalf.
